Journal 14 - Bernard Kouchner as a politician

Bernard Kouchner was the Minister of State under various officials from 1988 to 1991. In the following year, he became Minister of Health. From there, he continued, becoming a member of the European Parliament and President of the Committee on Development and Cooperation in 1994 (and still is). Finally, in July of 1994, he became the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and head of the UN Mission in Kosovo.
Most recently, Kouchner has stepped up to the platform on his opinions of the Iraq War. He, as most Frenchmen, was against the idea of entering to Iraq. On the other hand, he considers that, “Saddam Hussein was perhaps the most bloodthirsty dictator after Hitler and Stalin”.
Kouchner married a French media superstar named Christine Okrent; they have four children. He has had success with the media, and high popularity in the polls. Kouchner wasn’t ever a humble man. He has hailed the inventor of Humanitarian Intervention. Kouchner’s motto is: if people are in trouble, it is our duty to help them out no matter what. He describes his political attitude as the following, “My political stand is to put forward the national interest of all”.

Here in the US, everyone thinks that the French are a bunch of wimps because they don't like to fight, and because we had to "rescue" them in both World Wars. Plus, they were opposed to the war in Iraq. Do you think this is a fair assessment of them?
