Today is Tuesday, June 12, 2007. We had our first presentation. My classmates spoke very well. I still cannot speak fluently. I am irritated when I have to speak in English. It is so strange, because I lectured for many years. Sometimes, it was in the front of 100 or more students. It is no performance of the reason , but deficiency of skills in English.
I have to work more. My last chance is in this semester. I am awake to my deficiency in English. I have great teachers and very friendly classmates. I feel well in my class. I cannot give up! I haven’t written about my topic of my presentation. I will try to do it in my next journal. OK? Stay well, because the midnight is coming.

Hi Stefan,
Your spoken English is not as bad as you think...you did not hesistate too much, your pronunciation will never be native-like, but you were completely understandable to an American.
I think sometimes in a class of international students, youy can get discouraged more easily, because you are speaking to students who are not used to hearing such a variety of accents, and if they don't understand you, you might think your English pronunciation is to blame. But really, it could be others' inability to decipher English spoken by someone who is not a native speaker. What do you think?
I'm sorry I had to stop you last night. You understand that everyone must have a time limit. I know you miss teaching. I can tell that you are a great teacher!
Don't be too hard on yourself, Stefan...look at how far you've come in English... :)
Hi Anita,
Thank you very much that you support and encourage me. I almost have believed that I speak not as bad as I think.. If I prepare early my “speech”, it is better. But, if I have to improvise, it can be not so good.
I agree with you, that I should measure my progress in English individual way. It is the western philosophy theory of teaching. I learned it before I came to the USA. In my country, under communism rule, was totally different philosophy. At the schools, teachers divide students at the classes on good and bad (on the last level were donkeys). The teachers in front of the classes, directly announced whose assignments were evaluated as A and whose as D. I don’t know how at American high school is.
I see that if you bring our assignments, you treat our scores as a “topic secret”.
It is okay, but I experienced it only in the USA.
I support the idea, that we should value students’ progress in learning individual way.
On the other hand, the teachers have to compare students’ scores to the needs of curriculum. It can be that at one class the most students have A, and at another class no one had A.
Finally, if a teacher sees that student works hard, but he still doesn’t show progress, instructor should find something at schoolboy career which is good.
I’m sorry, if you will understand something with my explanations, it will be miracle. But you should appreciate it that I try to express my thought in this way.
Good night,
Stefan
